Communities that implement environmentally friendly practices to meet the needs of their residents are commonly known as green communities.

Goals

Green communities focus on projects and policies that prioritize green/blue infrastructure, green energy, green transportation, green waste management and sustainable development.

Results

Green communities promote practices that improve environmental quality, address climate change, promotes energy independence and reduce the impacts of human infrastructure development on natural resources.

Methodology

Green Communities program helps communities implement more environmentally friendly and sustainable practices. Formal or un-formal citizen community organizations receives supports through publications, grants and technical assistance that encourages communities to preserve open spaces, protect farmland, create walkable areas, practice waste selection, use renewable energy sources, offer multiple transportation options and cultivate compact and energy efficient building design.
